Residents in Newnham are concerned about a mix of national and local policy concerns, especially education and the impact of spending cuts on local government. There is a concern that national policy decisions have undermined local democracy.

In Bedford, the 3-tier education system is generally praised. However, there is also a realisation that we are surrounded by two-tier systems in adjoining counties and the new-found independence of schools is forcing the position, regardless of the benefits of three-tier.  Either way, there is great concern that Bedford will not have the money to handle the difficulties being created by this.

In addition, residents regularly raise traffic-related issues. There are problems at junctions, which could be resolved if more of the narrow connecting roads were one-way to the north of Castle Road as well as to the south. Residents have also mentioned speeding along that part of Castle Road.  The increasing number of cars means more difficulty in residents of finding parking spaces.
