Recognising Local Sports Achievements in 2020

2019 Sports Awards Ceremony

This year, the Bedford Sports Awards would be celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Sadly, the usual award ceremony cannot be held due to coronavirus but Bedford Borough Council still wants to recognise local sporting heroes and show appreciation for the amazing contribution so many people have made in 2020 and the good work that continues to be done in the community to help others stay active and healthy.

The awards will recognise and celebrate the sporting achievements of individuals, clubs and teams in Bedford Borough, and the crucial work of coaches, volunteers and others in making these happen.

To recognise those people who have gone above and beyond to help people keep active, achieve their goals, and continue to inspire, Bedford Borough Council has launched ‘Bedford Borough’s 2020 Sport and Physical Activity Heroes’.

Would you like to thank someone or a sports club/organisation/school for their support or recognise and celebrate their hard work during the pandemic?

  • Has your gym instructor gone online and delivered a Zumba, Pilates or karate class via Zoom?

  • Has someone you know helped an older person keep active by regularly joining them on a social distanced walk?

  • Perhaps you know someone who has helped get their sports club started again once restrictions were lifted?

  • Does your school have its very own 'Joe Wicks' inspirational PE teacher or have you as an individual taken up a new sport and got the family to join in?

The final list will go live online on 7 December 2020 so that as many people as possible can visit the site and hear about all the good work that is still continuing in our community.

To nominate someone, please visit 2020 Sport & Physical Activity Heroes and complete the simple online recognition form, and nominate who you wish to be recognised and why.
