Cllr Mohammed Nawaz has been appointed Deputy Speaker of Bedford Borough Council for the second year running. Usually after a year as Deputy Speaker he would be appointed Speaker of the Council.
As a good will gesture Mohammed and the Labour Group were pleased to let the present Speaker, Jane Walker, continue for another year, as she has not been able to attend any civic functions throughout the past year due to the pandemic.
Mohammed was first elected in 2011, and is Bedford Borough Councillor for Kempston Central and East Ward and Chair of the Labour Group on the Borough Council.
