Mohammad Yasin MP writes: Another year, another rail fare hike and at 2.8 percent, its higher than average for Bedford rail users who have seen average season tickets rise by nearly 40% since 2010 when the Conservatives came to power.
It’s just another kick in the teeth for those of us who have endured endless delays and cancellations this year despite the rail timetable settling after the disastrous changes the year before.
The rail network isn’t fit for purpose. Where is the accountability when customers are the only ones who seem to pay the price?
I was promised a meeting with the rail minister in the last parliament and it’s a priority of mine in the new parliament to make that happen. We were promised a full Review into rail including a rethink on fares and this needs to happen urgently.
