Save Bedford Hospital from Downgrade

2014_08_05_Patrick___Penny_hospital_(2).jpegPatrick Hall says, "We must all work together in the interest of the community."

The Healthcare Review is proposing the first downgrading of Bedford Hospital in its 200 year history by removing emergency surgery. Patrick Hall shares the deep concerns of local people that this could kick our hospital into a downward spiral leading to long journeys to other hospitals for the elderly and families.

Of course it makes sense to access specialist services elsewhere – such as at Papworth and Addenbrookes. But Bedford must retain a full A&E, maternity and paediatrics, plus work closely with community health services, GPs and other hospitals.

The Coalition Government’s drive to privatise and break up the NHS will block the progress we need.
