More roads to benefit from lower speed limit

Cllr Mohammed Nawaz and I are pleased to say that a 20mph speed limit will shortly be built in operation in most of the central area of Kempston.

Over 30 roads will benefit from the lower limit, within the area bounded by Spring Road, Elstow Road, Bunyan Road, and Bedford Road. This follows two residents' petitions, many complaints from individual residents, and a public consultation last year to over 1,400 households which received more than 400 replies, the result being overwhelmingly in favour of a lower limit.

Cllr Nawaz and I are grateful to the children of Camestone Lower School who have produced some superb designs for the 20mph street signs. We hope these will have an impact on motorists.

We thank the police who have promised to assist with enforcement and there will also be an opportunity for Community Speedwatch volunteers to participates.

Residents of Spring Road will soon have the national limit enforced via variable speed cameras -- the first to be installed in Kempston.
