Labour outraged by Cameron blocking £22m for local food banks

Sue.jpgCOUNCILLOR SUE OLIVER CRITICISES REJECTED HELP FOR FOOD BANKS BY TORY PRIME MINISTER

She says: "If you were legally entitled to millions of pounds would you refuse to claim it? Shockingly, that is exactly what David Cameron has repeatedly done with European Union money.

He blocked £22 million for local food banks that our charities urgently needed; hasn’t even asked for EU funds which are available for last winter’s flood victims, while Britain was the only country in Europe to miss the deadline to apply for money to help young unemployed people into work.

Whatever your view of the European Union, it is wrong to deprive vulnerable and disadvantaged people in this country of funds which could help relieve their suffering and reduce the cost to the British tax payer.

Please consider these points when using your vote in the European Parliamentary election and vote Labour on Thursday 22nd May."

Cllr Sue Oliver, Bedford Borough Labour Group Leader
