Give parents a say

I was interested to hear the Conservative candidate for Putnoe state she is understandably concerned about the continuing uncertainty regarding two and three tier education in the borough.

The public may be concerned to know however that thanks to the power of academies, there is very little she or the borough council can do about it. Thanks to reforms enacted by her party in London, academies now have almost complete freedom to choose the ages of children they wish to teach.

We only have to witness the current confusion and acrimony in Queen’s Park or the forced academisation of Robert Bruce Middle School to realise that constant interference from Whitehall is the root of the problem.

My approach if elected will be to trust parents and campaign to give them, not bureaucrats, the greatest say in the education of their children.

Graham Transquada
Labour candidate for Putnoe
