Camestone pupils design 20mph road signs

Labour Borough Councillors Mohammed Nawaz and James Valentine attended morning assembly at Camestone Lower School on Monday, 2nd March. They were there to announce the selection of artwork drawn by pupils in Year 2 and Year 4 which will be used on speed limit signs throughout the area.

Eight different designs will be incorporated onto standard 20mph road signs, with messages from pupils including ‘Slow Down!’ ‘Keep Kids Safe!’, and an illustration of a tortoise on a roadway to emphasise the point.

Councillor Nawaz said: “The standard of the artwork was really excellent and we had a difficult time selecting the eight that will be used. All the children should be congratulated on their hard work.”

Councillor Valentine added: “The area will be safer with a 20mph limit in place, and the children were keen to be involved. Hopefully, when these signs are mounted in streets nearby, the colourful pictures by the children will emphasise to drivers how important it is to slow down and stick to the limit.”
